When Harry Met Sally

Opening image: starts with an old couple talking about how they met.

Cinematography: everything was very leafy and the movie concentrated on browns and neutral colours. (A bunch of the scenes were set outside, so this was an ongoing theme.)

Characters: Harry- begins the movie as a younger college guy, then the movie goes to his late 30’s, some kind of businessman, wants to be the perfect guy for somebody but can’t seem to stay with one person for very long. Hates Sally, but thinks she’s pretty, hits on her a lot.
Sally- met Harry when they drove to New York in college, movie was mainly about when she was in her 30’s too, she wants to have a family, goes through a few boyfriends and still is stuck with Harry; Hates Harry.

Music: “It had to be you” – shows up a few times at the different Christmas scenes. This is funny because although they hate each other, then become friends, they always wind up with each other for a date, or someone to talk to.

Scenes: favourite: when they talk to each other on the phone before bed- when they hang up, Sally goes to sleep and Harry stays awake and moans by himself. (Random, even though they mentioned it in their talk.)
The scene when Harry explains to his friend (the one that hooks up with Sally’s friend,) that women are easy to talk to, then the little kid comes and wants a turn at the batting machine. Harry says “No way, I was here first”, that was real kiddish and kinda funny.

Closing image: Harry and Sally telling how they met- actually Harry telling and Sally correcting him, like a few of the other old couples had done.

Recommendation: Not for little kids (because of all the sexual jokes), but very engaging and an overall original movie.
